Commonwealth Child Safe Framework Annual Statement of Compliance
AOFM is committed to promoting and maintaining a culture that provides a safe environment for children and young people.
In accordance with the Commonwealth Child Safe Framework and as part of our commitment to child safety, AOFM has undertaken the annual child safety risk assessment in relation to its activities, to identify its level of responsibility for, and contact, with children and young people.
AOFM’s core activities are sovereign debt management, management of the Australian Government’s cash balances and investment in low risk financial assets. The nature of AOFM’s work means there is limited interaction with children across the scope of our activities and functions. AOFM’s interaction with children is only in relation to providing support to family members (including child dependants) of staff posted overseas.
Given the nature of these interactions, AOFM has assessed the risk to child safety as Low. AOFM’s annual risk assessment identifies key risk sources and mitigation actions to ensure the safety of child dependants of staff posted overseas.
AOFM conducts baseline security clearances of all prospective staff, including criminal history screening through the National Police Checking Service as part of pre-assessment security checks. Staff and family members posted overseas undertake necessary assessments and briefings prior to posting, and arrangements are put in place to manage their ongoing health and safety for the duration of the posting.
As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, in 2024-25 AOFM will:
- Review our organisational policies to support a child safe culture and work practices
- Implement education initiatives to raise employee awareness of the requirements of the Commonwealth Child Safe Framework, including the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations
- Review new organisational activities for potential child safety risks and implement any identified control measures.
